If I use computer normally it switches off OK if I have to use the 'medion' memory stick it starts as it should and closes as it should in explorer when removed - but then the computer hangs at the final screen - switching off then
causing scandisk to be activated -

Which OS rae you using, Sethhaniel? What happens if you leave the memory stick plugged into the USB port then shutdown, does it shutdown normally then?

  Sethhaniel 09:10 22 Dec 2003

yes the PC hangs if stick is left in as well

Did you load any drivers that came with your memory stick, Sethhaniel, Windows 98 would need drivers for the USB device? Also check the manufacturer's website for updated drivers, it might have been a bug for which they've found an answer.

Is there an equivalent to Remove Hardware Wizard in Windows 98??

If the stick is left isn't there a chance Windows might still be talking to it - hence the use of the Remove Hardware Wizard in XP?

that works in identical fashion in explorer that unloads when card is taken out but that doesn't hang the computer

after having benn doingg a lot of file transfer using memmory stick between ports on both machines - the machine with problem shuts down properly - maybe just a one off use doesn't uninstall itself properly??

A flash card should never be removed from a computer system unless unless it follows the proper use of its icon or after the system has fully shutdown.

Window's '98 se has to have drivers installed and there is no icon or program to turn it off - also CTR ALT DEL doesn't list anything running
