PC won't shut-down

I have a problem with shutting down my pc, a few times in the past week when I have selected shut-down, the PC hasn't managed to, it basically does nothing! When I say it's happened a few times, it was once last week and twice tonight! The only new thing I've installed on the PC is Mozilla Firefox as my IE7 update wasn't working and was full of errors. Any suggestions please?

Many thanks in advance.
