Possible hard disk failure. Download a disk testing tool from the manufacturers website and run from floppy.

Hi. Had this yesterday, tried all sorts to cure it, and the only way I could resolve it in the end was a re-install of windows over the top of the existing. Check at boot up or in the bios to see if your hard drive is recognised. If not, suspect failure of some sort - loose lead, failed socket on mobo, dead drive etc. If working, maybe the only thing to do is the above unless someone can suggest anything else. J

It might be useful for you to do the same as well. Unfortunately I've had this experience in the past, just before the disk failed.
