PC will not start

After many months of trouble free use my pc shut itself down and now will not start. It doesn't even get to the mobo bleeps. I've tried a different PSU to no avail. We've done nothing different such as any new programs so I'm really at a loss. Has my mobo packed in?
Any ideas?
Many thanks
G.

"many months of trouble free use"

still under guarantee?

Check fuse in plug, recheck all connections to motherboard, disconnect power switch on front, momentary short pins and see if anything happens.

If good psu now used, then looking like mobo or cpu.

Not under guarantee unfortunately. Checked all connections so I'll try start button idea.
Cheers,
G.

The fans are coming on so I don't think it's a power or switch thing. I really think I'm done for.

a faulty or under rated PSU will allow fans to run but not give enough power to boot the machine.

Is the hard /cd rom drives led flashing

Check the memory chips remove and re-seat in socket

If two chips try them one at a time

The PSU is 400w and has worked merrily for 2 years. I've tried a different (new!) one which didn't work either.

All lights on, memory checked and re-seated, still nothing.

Remove all hardware hard drives, cd-rom, floppy, all pci cards and see if you get a bios display if still no display

Replace the memory with any spare memory 64/128/256 chips that you have as you only need to see the display start up if the display show up you have bad memory and not a bad motherboard
