My PC has windows 98.
It will not shut down. You have helped me with this problem before, but I cannot remember what you said. I think I need to restore some original settings (in the operating system?).

Thanks VoG.

I found the advice I was given before. It is:

HOW TO FIX SHUT DOWN PROBLEM IN WINDOWS

when in windows click start>shutdown then click on restart in ms-dos

When in DOS type scanreg/fix

When completed(and this may take sometime) a box will pop up saying ok. If the computer does not restart and you just get a flashing cursor type EXIT

I have done this and my PC seems to be better.

I think I had some trojans in that caused problems.
