PC will not bootup.

OS Win 98 SE

I have just installed an internal modem for my neighbour.

I connected to ISP and all works well.

However, this morning, I found that the PC would not boot up.
The power supply reaches the power unit OK, I can see and hear the cooling fan.
It seems that the Hard Drive is not responding.
There is no activity when I try to boot up from any kind of disc. The monitor screen remains blank. (monitor works OK)
Could this be Hard Drive failure?

As a matter of interest, before closing the case yesterday, I pressed the motherboard battery to make sure that it was secure, it gave a slight click, I then secured the PC casing, I put the PC away, until this morning.

Thank you for any advice or help

Check IDE cable is fully inserted at HDD and motherboard.

Will it boot into BIOS?
check hardrive is bing detected.

Fruit Bat. Yes, cables are all firm in place.
Pc will not even attempt to boot in any form.
Does appear as if Hardrive is being detected.

I would say the extra hardware as pushed the Power Supply over the edge. It needs a bigger one

PS try removing the modem card then try reboot to confirm my other post above. If it still does not boot the PSU is dead

Woodchip, I note that this PS is 150W output.

Bye the way, I only replaced the modem, do you think that it make a big difference?

Woodchip, just got your second message, will try and remove modem.

  woodchip 15:11 06 Oct 2006

Yes it can lock them down

Woodchip.
The PC did bootup after removing the modem.

Message on screen reads CMOS type wrong.
Press F2 to default settings??

  woodchip 15:22 06 Oct 2006

Check the CMOS battery. But it does need a bigger PSU
