For some reason my computer will not boot all the way into windows. It goes through the usual POST then continues with the Windows XP screen till it goes blank with the arrow from the mouse, which moves with the mouse, and then it will go no further. Can any one suggest a fix or even explain what is wrong.

It does not get to the blue logon screen, it stops just before it

Thanks

There are a couple of things to try. Tap the F8 key immediately after powering on and until the Boot menu appears then:

1) Boot into "Safe Mode" and see if you can run a "System Restore" from there.

2) If that doesn't help, try booting the "Last Known Good Configuration".

Tried both these and it will only go to a balck screen with nothing on it except Safe Mode in all four corners.

Have you got an XP disc?

If you have, first you need to enter the BIOS, to do this tap the delete key when staring up, you need to make the cd-rom the "First Boot"

Now pop your XP disc in, when the screen pops up you need to repair XP

Sorry, couldn't resist 'staring up'.
