pc starts up on its own

  square eyes 18:50 22 Jun 2007

I reinstalled xp on my mum's computer, i have done this many times with my own with no problem. My mum's is a packard Bell imedia and everythings fine except for one strange thing...it's starts up on its own like a ghost has switched it on. The same happens in standby too. Its seems to be about 30 mins after shutting down.

Any ideas please, i'll be checking frequently here for answers this evening

Many thanks

For a start, you could check the Power settings in Control Panel.

wake on lan and wake on ring in the BIOS

Thanks fruitbat but unfortunately that didn't work.
I disabled wake on Lan/Ring but it still switched on about 40 mins later, Ive looked in the bios again and just above it says wake on PME (not sure what that stands for) Ive disabled it anyway so switching off again, I'll give it an hour and if it stays off i'll let you know.

As above you need to go into BIOS, look in ASPI or Power Management. It one of those two places. its nothing to do with Windows. Modem etc can trigger it

Just want to confirm that disabling "wake on PME" worked!
Thanks Fruitbat, you were just one out but i wouldnt have done it without you.

Cheers all

check ur schedules for anything that demands the computer startes to run its self. in fact just disable all of them and try it.
