I run windows XP Pro and would like to know how to restart after putting pc in standby mode, without having to reboot?

I stand to be corrected but I thought moving the mouse or hitting a key normally fires a PC back up out of standby mode.

Assuming you have the keyboard and/or mouse set to bring the PC out of Standby, there's no need to re-boot.

The only time you'll need a re-boot is when the PC hibernates because the PC actually powers off to hibernate and you must press the power button to bring it out of hibernation.
