pc not recognising some dvds

my pc does not recognise some copies of dvds.i have tried them in my dvd rom drive an in my writer.it says not formatted or corrupt or not using a system that is compatable with windows.if i put the same disk into my sons new computer they work fine.also if he then copies it for me it works on my machine.we are both using nero and the same version.any help appreciated .

Some drives have difficulties reading different discs.
My home pc DVD-RW will not read or write to DVD+R discs, but my laptop will read & write to any disc.
Sometimes it's the drive it's self!

thanks for the response but if it's the drive itself,why is it doing the same with my dvd re-writer if i put the disc in that drive the same thing happens.
