my current pc is using an intel pentium d 805 processor. i want to switch to an amd processor, so i know i need a new motherboard and other things. now the question is is there a way to keep my current software and settings on the new system without having all the clutter from a windows xp pro repair???

Using a program like Acronis True Image, you could make a Clone of your hard drive and save the Clone on an external hard drive. On the re-made 'new' pc you then Restore the Clone, you would then have everything as it was before. Cloning is different to Imaging a hard drive - Cloning is for 'moving' all your data to another hard drive, whereas Imaging is for Restoring to the same hard drive, like after a serious crash or data corruption.
