booted computer forgot bout it. a few hours later smell of burning from pcfound windows98 cd in cd drivehard drive partitioned have windows 98 & xp installedcould cd have caused this.pc working fine since
The CD drive will have cooked, you should buy new. Get a DVDRW they are cheap as chips
Unlikely, I'd suggest a good spring clean to ensure all dust and carpet fluff removed and to check that all fans are running properly.
If your CD drive has cooked it will bring a whole new meaning to "CD burning" ;^)
Who can say, Woodchip could be right, but would vikpole then say the PC was working OK if the CD drive had terminally, expired and gone to meet its maker in so pungent a manner ?
I was thinking that Laser had not switched off. That would burn disc, but it did not say. Only that the 98 disc was in drive
without being the bearer of bad news a burning smell could also be caused by a failing/failed processor fan or a short it may be worth popping the case open for further investigation
looks like one post, the vanish
