PC Freezes Intermitantly

PC Freezes Intermitantly while online. Some times it free's itself after a minute or two.

The other way I can free it is if I open another Windows Explorer home page. For some strange reason this gets everything back to normal. A bit like flicking a switch.

Any ideas please how I can fix this. Thank you

Got some shopping in last night;)

Everything is up to date. Latest antivirus software installed.

What do you currently have installed at the moment?

Running Windows XP Pro - Service Pack 2.

Just froze on me while typing this message. Opened another home page and now all ok. Wierd!

Also have Norton Antivirus 2008.

The two main things I have either renewed or updated are iTunes and Norton AV. But don't ask me when I noticed the problem started.

Norton is your problem here I think thats why its freezing. Have you done a memory test and cleaned all dust from inside the case?

  redbarron 12:01 29 Nov 2007

No. How do I do a memory test please?

May sound a daft question. But how would dust inside the case cause the system to freeze?

Burn ISO image to a CD or down the exe version and stick it on a floppy and restart computer and run the memtest tool.

"May sound a daft question. But how would dust inside the case cause the system to freeze?"

Simple - Dust might be clogging the fans and dust can slow the PC's performance.

Remove the Side Case and check.
