recently my pc has had strange lines appearing on the screen
after about an hour the lines cover the screen, the monitor goes into standby and the pc crashes
any ideas?

It could be that it needs cleaning inside.

Could be a Graphics problem.Have you tried device manager to see if any exclamation marks on any of your devices.Maybe try last good configuration in safe mode or System restore.

To me it sounds like the graphics card is over heating (if not onboard graphics).

As above a good clean could be needed.

just noticed if i grab the blue taskbar of a small window and wiggle it from side to side it leaves after effects on the screen

Sounds like a Faulty Graphics card, If its inbuilt on motherboard do you have a Graphics slot to fit a card? What type

i have a ge force ti 4400
i have just updated the drivers for it and cleaned the inside of the pc with a soft brush
i did not want to use the vacuum cleaner in there is it safe?

You could try removing and refitting the Graphics card as they tend to work out of the slot with heat. Turn Mains electric off before Removing it, by pulling 13 amp plug

Vacuum is Ok Providing you have the computer unplugged and are using a plastic nozzle.Well thats what I use with the aid of a small brush.
