pc-codec-pack malware

  KMa 21:13 22 Apr 2009

my pc has recently become infected with somthing which flags up a badly worded and obviously suspect error message inviting me to download an update from pc-codec-pack.com to cure a problem with "media system of your computer is destroy now". Then it engages my browser and fills my screen with bogus website. Norton AV can't find it.Any ideas how to get rid?

Give Malwarebytes a try.

Delete it immediately, do not open it. Anyone on this forum will tell you the same.

.....And tullie's idea too

Agree with tullie and bluto1, download from click here choose the free trial version, which is fully functional apart from real time protection, install and update it immediately then run a quick scan, if it finds anything let it get rid of it and reboot if requested. Immediately run the program again but perform a full scan.

Sorry, should have said I agreed as far as Malwarebytes is concerned.
