what speed are you supposed to be getting?

  rdave13 12:18 15 May 2009

Im about 1.5 km from exchange and on 'up to 8 meg' broad band. Best I get is 2.5 meg and on a good day peaks at 3 meg. Try another tester to compare such as speedtest.net; click here

Mine is...

Down Speed 0.92 Mbps
Up Speed 0.23 Mbps

It will vary at different times of the day and I'm 8 miles from the exchange

You don`t say what speed you "should" be getting from your ISP. Therefore it is not possible to judge if your results are good or bad.

However, try Dr TCP. I changed to a Tiscali "up to 8Mb connection" from a standard Tiscali 2Mb connection, in January this year.

Speed tests on the new connection were always around 3.4Mb. Last week I was reminded about Dr TCP, and read up on it. On adjusting the settings, my speeds now are steady around 5.4Mb.

Still not the 8mb, but a great improvement.

Sorry, I did not notice the comment made on the end of your last post.

Your speed results are terrible for a "Up to 24Mbps connection".

Give Dr TCP a try; it helped me and it may help you.

Are you with TalkTalk or AOL?

If so your MTU should be set at 1432 - TCPOptimiser will indicate if the setting is correct. See:

If the above doesn't apply to you, apologies..:-)

have a look around this site to find out what you should expect to get but as is said above i would think you should be getting faster speed than you areclick here

i'm on cable myself so i'm not really sure about your connection but are you using the main bt socket, filters and have you tried changing filter and i don't know about anyone else but i'm wondering whether the bell wire might have something to do with it.
