password puzzle

when i try to run the recovery console,it won't accept the password,yet i'm the adminstrator and the password works fine for normal logon to windows(XP PRO).
any ideas?

It's not that password.

Usually there isn't one set so leave it blank

May I ask why you need to run the recovery console?
Most things can be done by pressing F8 during bootup for a list of options.
Have you tried safe mode, or last known good?

What problem are you having?

tried leaving blank no good
then tried "ADMIN" no good
then "admin"
my administrator password all no good.

Or - right-click on the drive, then Properties, then choose Tools tab and click on Check now ...

I can access chkdsk but should i in future get a problem i won't be able to use the recovery console until i can supply it with the password its asking for,how can i find out the password it needs?

During the installation of XP Pro you reach a screen where you are invited to enter a password for the administrator. If the password hasn't been left blank then it was set by the person or company who installed XP Pro on the PC. You will need to contact them and ask for it.
