Password Protect folders

Hi, we work from home. we have wireless network in both the office and home. I would like to password protect (not hide) drives (mainly external) and folders on a file sharing server so that the kids or indeed anyone else can not accidently do anything to them.

The file sharing server is running winXP home and we have a mixture of PC's and macs in the office and home that all may need access to the protected files.

One internet connection supplies both the house and the office. I have a modem/router that has one cable going to a switch where the wireless access points, file sharing server, and other devices plug into. The modem/router then obviously assigns the IP add to each device.

Can anyone suggest some software or hardware setup that can do this?

Opps.. Sorry to say that you can only do simple file/folder sharing in XP home, no password protection. If you have XP pro, then you can share file with user/group permission as shown here click here .
