I have added a password to some of my excel files in the past but I cannot remember how to do this.I have Win XP pro and Office XP pro. Basically I want to be prompted for a password every time I open the excel file.Secondly I would like to know how secure this method would be. For instance, if someone manged to hack into my PC and took my password protected file then would the only way they would be able to view the contents of the file would be if they knew the password?
Tools/Protection/Protect Workbook. It is incredibly easy to crack Excel passwords.
VoG - I have tried Tools/Protection/Protect Workbook but I am still able to open up the file and VIEW the contents without being prompted for a password.
I have just worked out how to do it.Tools/options/security tabSo how easy is it to crack files that are password protected in this way?
I'm not sure about that password. The protect workbook and protect worksheet passwords can be cracked by some VBA code that does not take too long to find on the internet.
