Password problem - new to networking.

  Haysi 16:51 17 Jun 2005

I have just set-up a network with one PC connected by cable to a LAN port on a router/ADSL modem [with WLAN] and another PC connects via the WLAN, both computers can access the internet through the router and I can access the PC on the LAN from the one on the WLAN but if I try to access the PC on the WLAN from the one on the LAN, I get asked for a password [user name box is 'greyed' out].
Both PC are on Win XP Pro and I think I have set them up identically, and have definitely not put in any passwords, other user accounts etc., yet, except for WPA SPK encription on the WLAN.
Any ideas where this could be coming from or how to by-pass it ?

In the PC which you are unable to access, have you actually set any folders as "shared" in their Properties? By default in Windows XP, File/Printer sharing is disabled and you might then get the prompt for a Password.

It might also be necessary to have accounts with identical Username/Passwords set up in both PCs.

It may be possible to just click OK without having to put a password in?

Other than that you may have to check the password settings in the BIOS?
