Password to a Microsoft Word document ?

  Antonio Machado 05:31 25 Jan 2009

Hello experts !

How can I protect a confidential document in Microsoft Word with a password so I can be the only person with access to it ?

Thanks in advance, best, Antonio.

Open the word document.

Goto "Tools/Options/Security"

There you have all the security options needed.

Is it Word 2007 (as in Office 2007) that you have?

Is this Word 2007? Then Review, Protect document.

I gather Word document passwords aren't that difficult to break. Plus, as I understand it, it is a password to access the contents of the file, but NOT encryption of the file contents

If you want to be really sure you need to encrypt. Depends who you are trying to prevent from accessing the contents (and how determined they might be to "break-in").

There are a number of choices out there. TrueCrypt might be a possibility. See click here
