if it is Xp then you can just set a password on the user account.

control panel>user account>create a password

once this is done, a password will have to be entered on start-up.

You could always set the screensaver to ask for a password once it resumes.

Set a password on the BIOS - just don`t forget it! Free solution and very difficult to get round. If you search the forum for "Password" you`ll see 100 threads mainly about forgotten one`s. The one`s that include a BIOS password problem are often unresolved.
