Partitions and re-installing XP

  Dicmay 17:18 21 May 2004

My setup is as follows:

120GB Maxtor - C: (20GB); E:(95GB)
80GB Western Digital - D:(20GB); F(55GB)

The C drive houses Win98SE and the D drive is the home of WinXP. I use drives E and F for various things, downloads, games and the like.

I would now like to re-install WinXP and get rid of Win98SE. Is it possible to reinstall XP to the C drive, format the D drive (perhaps even merge D and F together) without losing the data on the E and F drives?

I have a copy of Partition Magic 8.0 which I have never opened if this is of any use 0_o

Thank you :)

transfer all files that you want to keep to your D Drive

Now install XP on your C drive

Now Transfer all files to the C drive and then reformat D

in answer to your question regarding PM 8.0, yes it would do what you want without loss of data, but so would winXP's built in partition software click start/run and type in

press enter and it will start the inbuilt partitioning stuff.

if you dual boot windows, formatting drive C: would also remove the boot files so your dual boot wouldnt work anymore untill you rebuilt the boot.ini file, but if you are installing win XP on drive C: then that shouldnt be a problem.
