What are sytem partitions and when should I use them?

Partitions are smaller sections of a larger hard drive, i.e one drive split into a number of pieces. They help in keeping data stored better on your computer, e.g one for your operating system, one for your music, one for your videos, one for your documents....... etc.

Using a partition is like having a another hard disc.

Just using the one Hard drive you can have 2, 3, 4..Partitions. Windows see them as seperate drives. But its all on the same drive.

I have 3 partitions

1) 90GB partition for Windows XP

2) 10GB partition for games

3) 5GB partition for the other stuff

I have Windows XP so i created a partiton when seting up XP. You can also use FDISK and Partiton Magic.
