I'm thinking of overclocking my PC.
Never done before so what do i need to know about plus or minus points of doing it?

minus -

could blow motherboard and or cpu = one dead PC

will overstress components and therefore machine will not last as long.

plus
slight speed gain you wouldn't notice under normal circumstances but may see if using programs that heaverly tax the cpu

First question is WHY, you will see no discernible difference in performance.
your hardware may not be compat with O/C.
you will probably need bigger case and CPU fans to cope with the extra heat produced.
you will certainly reduce the life of the components involved..
It would normally be done by hardcore gamers.
having said all that there is a beginners guide in the link....

I looked at it a while ago only a few motherboards are suitable for overclocking as are some RAM strips and and some cpu's.

you need to buy your gear with O/C in mind.
