Over heating/screen frozen

I use XP pro.
For a while I have been having problems with a frozen screen, which means I have turn of at the power source, it was suggested that it may be over heating, the computer is 2 years old and has been in the same position in all that time.
Not very tec minded but removed side panel and all the fans seem to be working correctly.
The problem seems to getting worse how can I check if it is over heating or any suggestions on what it could be?.

Put a desk fan pointing into the comp with side of if it's better you know then you need to do something about the fans

what is the temp of the cpu on idle? do you get any blue screen crashing etc...
