outlook word attachment

I received this document saved as word (.doc) atatched to an email. Source is reliable, sender uses Outlook Express 6, I use Outlook 2000.
If I try to open it, I get the message: "Operation failed. Object could not be found." If I try to save it as All Files or Word, message is: "Outlook could not save the file."

Also, in the message body, I get a couple of pages of garbled text.

Any ideas on how to open the document?

It is a text I am expecting to receive, so no risk of it being a virus.

carmella, I thinksit all depends on which version of Word the document was saved under. If the sender is using Word 2002 and you are using Word 2000, your Word program will not open the document.

Check with the sender to see which version of Word they are using.

Get the sender to save the file as a text file and send it. Your email program should not make any difference to any attached files.

or. - if the sender is using an earlier version of MS Word than you get them to save it as the version you are using.

How about if it was saved in *.rtf,(rich text format); would that work?.
