Outlook, Outlook Express and attachment

A friend sent an Email to me with an attached Excel spreadsheet.

I collected in using Outlook express but no attachment appeared. After much head scratching we discovered that he sent via Outlook.

I asked him to send it again and picked it up OK using Outlook.

After various tests we found that I could only receive attachments which he sent via outlook by using outlook myself to collect my mail not my preferred mail program Outlook express.

Any ideas why this should be.

Are attachments disabled in OE, to check follow these steps

1. Select Tools from the menu
2. Select Options / from the tool menu
3. Select Security Tab
4. Un check fourth box down in the Virus Protection Section.
5. Click apply

You should now be able to receive e-mails with attachments.

In OE under Read the option is to 'read messages in plain text' rather than read/notread HTML.

I am using OE ver 6 and under Tools>Options>Read I can find no reference to Reading messages in text or HTML

Am I doing something stupid.

what format is your friend sending in , rich text (rtf), plain text or html ?

This problem can occur using rtf , would suggest you tell your friend to try html or plain text if this is the case .

Friend says he is sending HTML - will have to visit him personally and see what he is up to.
