Outlook not responding

  griffo 20:50 23 Oct 2007

my wife's email account in Outlook has stopped working. It opens with Inbox showing Last Week and the first email is an unopened 'Mailer-Daemon failure notice'.

I cannot delete it or do anything else in Outlook and just get 'Not Responding'

I have downloaded Mailwasher, which seemed to delete this message but when Outlook then opens, it's still there!

Any ideas please?

You didn't say which version of Outlook but try this click here

The version is 2003, will the scanpst repair work with this version?

Tried that but can't find outlook.pst

Rather stuck here - can't find Outlook.pst to try VoG's suggestion and Outlook won't let me do anything, so can't delete my wife's email account.

Any other ideas please?

Let's try a different tack - would it be possible to repair or remove Outlook (then re-install)?

anyone know the answer please?

To find Outlook.pst you may need to enable display/search of hidden files and folders:

1. Click Start.
2. Click My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Click Yes to confirm.
7. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Click OK.

Search for Hidden Files
By default, the Search companion does not search for hidden files. Because of this, you may be unable to find files, even though they exist on the drive.

To search for hidden or system files in Windows XP:

Click Start, click Search, click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options.

Click to select the Search hidden files and folders check boxes.

To try a repair, select Detect and Repair on the Help menu.

thanks. Did all that and ran scanpst.exe and it said outlook.pst needed repairing to work properly, so ran that. It said it had done it but Outlook still has the Mailer-Daemon in my wife's account and it won't function.

Two things I've noticed:- the mailer-daemon is 94MB and the mouse pointer disappears as soon as I move it onto the Outlook window.

Any more ideas please?
