Outlook Express won't connect

I have Outlook Express and IE6 running under XP with BT Internet Pay as you go. When opening IE6, the dial up connection dialogue appears as normal, and connects successfully.
When opening outlook Express however, nothing happens. When Send/Recieve is clicked, it still does not initiate a connection dialogue box.

I cannot find any setting which might be suppressing the connection in Outlook Express. Can anybody help?

Are you able to send and receive emails though? Just wondering whether the send and receive is just happening so fast that its not got time to display the dialogue (as does happen)

I've had a similar problem wit my W98SE machine connecting to BTInternet which prompted me to try a new modem without improvement. Dial up and connection worked OK but no data was being sent or received , either in OE or IE. My son cured it by changing my dial up settins from @btinternet.com to @btopenworld.com. BT have recently changed everything to BT Yahoo and I can only assume this fault was an unintentional by-product. Well, its worth a try.
