Outlook Express wants to compress files

My laptop has Windows XP with all the updates.
After using Outlook Express and logging off, I get the message:"to free up disc space, Outlook Express can compact messages, this may take a few minutes".
As the hard disc is only one third full, why do I keep getting this annoying message?
What do I have to do to stop it?
Grateful for any suggestions.

Just do it. You won't get the message again for 100 times that you use OE.

Thanks VoG, I just was not sure how many files it would compress. As you said the message has now disappeared and it only took a few seconds.

It usually appears if your Deleted folder has a large number of files.
