The Outlook Express on my quite elderly Dell Latitude D520 Laptop, in the last week not only will not open, but freezes the whole system up.
Also, System Restore refuses to open to allow me to restore it to an earlier date.
I have run my "Registry Mechanic", and "Malwarebytes" and nothing changes.
I have McAfee Security Centre installed.
Can anybody suggest a possible solution.
Try in safe mode.
Already done that. Both don't work in safe mode
I think outlook express comes parcelled with Internet explorer.
If using I/E8 maybe try this.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949220
Or maybe turn the firewall off temporarily and see if that works.
Maybe remove McAfee Security Centre using McAfee removal tool then see if your programs work.Then reinstall McAfee
If using a different version of I/E you can go to internet options.advanced. and press reset.That resets I/E to its original condition.
Actually before you try that you could press restore advanced settings and see if that makes any difference.
You could try this for system restore.http://www.tangosoft.co.uk/index.html I have never used it so cannot comment on how good it is.
If using XP I used to use[ Dial A Fix] to sort out a few problems.
My feeling is that it is McAfee that may be causing the problem.
Maybe give Hitmanpro a run just to see if it finds any problems.It works very quick so will tell you if your system is clear or not.
