I wish to use an animated .Gif as my Signature in OE,I found a thread in another forum that detailed exactly howto do it,I created one and tested it by sending it to my Hotmail,and it worked.Then,XP Home crashed,and when I reinstalled XP I had lost the www addy.I tried recreating the signature in OE,only when I sent a test email to myself,it just gave the www addy in the email.I tried locating the original post,only Google offers thousands of links,but only shows text sig creation.Anyone on here able to tell me where I am going wrong please?

Every time I add a Signature to OE,I now get a popup on clicking "Create mail" that says "Warning:The Signature file specified is not a valid text file.This signature has been removed.This may also affect other signature settings"

Here's how I used to do it, Chegs ®.

1. create a HTML file in Notepad, for example,

<img src="E:\Documents and Settings\MAJ\Desktop\doll.gif">

As you see, my gif is called "Doll" and it's stored on my desktop. Call this file Signature.HTML and save it somewhere.

2. Open OE and go to Tools > Options > Signature tab. In the "Signatures" section, click the "New" button to create a new signature, give it a name.

3. In the "Edit Signature" section, click on the "File" radio button and browse to where you saved "signatue.html" earlier and select it and click Open. You notice that the path to that file has appeared in the File field.

4. Click the "Advanced" button and choose which email accounts you want to use the signature with. Then click OK.

5. In the "Signature Settings" section, tick the little box which says, "Add signatures to all out-going messages".

6.Click Apply and OK.

7. That's it Chegs ®. You can leave out step 5 and just choose Insert > Signature from the toolbar of your new message, if you don't want to have a signature on all your emails.

I have tried this and I get either a signature containing "gooble-de-gook" or a link to the image www . animatedgif.net/cartoons/3dsub0_e0.gif or the "Warning:The Signature file specified is not a valid text file.This signature has been removed.This may also affect other signature settings" message.I have succeeded as one of my previous emails I have in my Hotmail account shows,but even trying to use its image in a signature produces one of these results above.

I will keep searching thru google for the other post in a forum,but as OE+signatures in google produces thousands of results it's gonna take me ages.I will continue searching various permutations of OE+howto create+signatures,etc until I narrow it down some(I occasionally remember bits of the thread,just a pity I cannot recall whose site it was)

Make sure you have HTML email turned on in OE, > Tools > Options > Send tab > Mail Sending Format section

I think I'm getting closer,now I get a white box with a red x in the corner,only it popped up a message about the image not found,do I want to send anyway? when I click on create new email.

I've just tried yours Chegs ®, it works a treat, but you really shouldn't remote link to someone elses site (unless you've had permission, of course). Download the gif to your hard drive and use it from there as in my first example with doll.gif. Anyway, here's the html file.

Thank you,I used copy/paste from your post to edit the "Signature.html" and it now works.I must have been missing something out,but now am searching thru the Images on the net,which I will d/l onto my hdd and then edit the Sig... file to point to it instead of a www addy.(and as its in my postings now,no more lost files/tips/tweaks as they are in here...lol.)
