Outlook Express one account has stopped working

I am running XP Home SP3. I have had three e-mail accounts for a number of years and the default address has suddenly stopped working. All I get is "authorising" followed after a few minutes by a message to insert my user name and password, which are already shown in the message! I can send messages OK. I have changed the default to another address to no effect.

I have Avast AV, XP Firewall, SUPERantispyware, and Windows Defender running, none of which have had any settings changed, I have received updates for Avast.

Just deleted all messages from the ISP's site, including spam, everything now works OK. I don't know why this should be, but, who cares!

Possibly your box (allowence) was full, which is why no more could be added to it.

No, the box wasn't full, I have had many more messages in it before.
