Outlook Express Message Rules

  Graham ® 19:47 28 Jun 2006

I have set a Message Rule to delete all mail addressed to Webmaster, because they are all spam. This works fine, but the New Mail icon in the Notification area stays on, even though the message has been deleted. If I go to deleted messages and open them, it goes. Rather defeats the object! Any thoughts, please?

What's the point of keeping deleted messages?

In OE go to Tools; Options; Maintenance and tick 'Empty messages from the deleted items folder on exit'.

Thanks, but that will not solve the problem during a session.

In fact, I can't immediately think of a way around it.

Your message rule will sent any mail addressed to Webmaster straight to the Deleted Items box - UNREAD.

Thus, as far as OE is concerned you have new (unread) mail.

Unless any other members have any better ideas, I suggest that you live with it.

It's a nuisance rather than life threatening.

I've added 'Mark it as read' to the actions.

Set the message rule to 'delete from server....' that way you won't download them at all.
