I have had this problem for about two months now. Suddenly OE v600.28001123 will shut down after about a minute with an error message.
This is:-

AppName msimm.exe AppVer600.28001123 ModNamecomctl32.dll
ModVer 6.0.2800.1515 Offset 000793f7

I have downloaded the latest OE and installed it but with no improvement. Can anyone help me please? It is becoming ridiculous.

comctl32.dll is a general Windows file, not specific to Outlook Express.

If you have Windows XP try the following. Start, Run, type in

sfc /scannow

and click OK. You may be asked for your Windows CD.

Thanks for the suggestion VoG, I tried it but the machine asked for my Service Pack 1 CD which I do not have, as I downloaded it from the MS website some time ago. I then downloaded Starter Pack 2 but no improvement. I would be grateful for any more suggestions.

When it asks for a Service Pack 1 disk, just put in your original Windows XP CD.

If it keeps asking for a SP1 disk, just leave the Windows disk in the drive and click OK. Eventually it should accept this.

I did what you just suggested thanks very much. It seemed to work and all the checks went through. However OE has dropped out again very soon and left a different error message.

szAppName :msimn.exe szAppVer : 6.0.2900.2180 szModName : hungapp
szModCer 0.0.0.0 offset :00000000

Any further clues?
