Outlook Express drops broadband connection

My employers PC connects through BT broadband and is fine until she opens Outlook Express when the connection drops out instantly and a new connection prompt appears. I have checked all the connection settings in OE and disabled the original onboard 56K modem so that any connection prompts always defaut to the ADSL. I have run A SFC and there are no corrupt windows files.
I'm sure there is a simple explanation that I am overlooking.
Windows XP Home SP2 on an Emachines 4250.

also check in the mail a/c that hang up after send receive does not have a tick in it.

Thanks Paul. The always connect using option was blank. I added BT broadband and the connection now stays on.
