Message number 1 could not be retrieved. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR problem retrieving message.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD

Can anyone suggest a cure. Bought and ran RegCure which gave me losts of problems. Have unistalled it and done system restore but still have this problem. Don't know if related or co-incidence. Thanks

Dear Sir,
I have several things wrong with my computer. This error problem is the latest.
As I ask for my mail I may get half. The rest of the emails are given the: No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD., Applied to each email not downloaded.

I have Belark Advisor and would you like me to send you a copy of my system?
I am not really sure where to start. If I send a copy of my system as it is now it may help?

Please tell me what you would like me to do.

Other longer problems are.
The screen goes black for about a second perhaps twice an hours.
The graphics are terrible with lines streaking through a lot of graphics like pictures and videos.
The icons start to deteriorate as soon as I turn on and often by the time I switch off several hours later I can see no 'envelope' icons in OE, and all other icons on the desktop, and to do with all files and folders on the computer have little vertical lines round the edges of the icons. On some I can hover the cursor and they are as good as new for a few seconds.
I thought this may be caused by my graphic software so uninstalled the main ATI software, leaving just a Uninstall Utility and ATI Driver.
I still have the original CDs of all the software I bought when I built the machine in 2002/2003.
I have had several Trojan attacks including virus attacked etc. Over the last year I have had to start using 6 different anti virus apps. I was using Kerspasky for about three years with apparently no problems. Then about two years ago I had a massive crash. And have had another two since but not as bad. Each time I have to change software because the anti virus etc, does not see any infection and I find out when it is too late. The first major crash took me over a week to sort out. Doing it from safe mode and not connected to the phone/isp at all unless I needed updates for the particular anti virus or anti spyware I was using at that moment. Then as soon as I got the update the connection was removed from the socket where the phone line enters. So I was cleaning and recleaning over and over again. Until my machine would function.
If I can just explain...........I have epilepsy and virtually no short term memory. So even though something may have happened before I have to treat it as a brand new problem because I cannot automatically recall what happened last time and what I did to recover from it. I keep notes but have moves a few months ago and a lot of my stuff is still packed into boxes so I can't look back.
I think I have been using a machine which was damaged by the first Trojan or that should be three Trojans and virus' I got a couple of years ago. I Would like to reinstall but, my memory problem has gotten a lot worse since the first build. I do not want to get part way through and realise I do not know what comes next.

I have according to 'Belark Advisor' several hundred MB of Norton 360 I cannot uninstall. And the same thing applies to several other bits of software.

Shall I send in my Belark Advisor profile of the computer? If you think it warrants it I can buy a small laptop to keep in touch while I put this right?
I have to different HDD, one has just one drive. The other 150Gb one is split into two 75Gb portions.

You will see on Belark that there is about twelve updates which have not downloaded from Microsoft. I do not know why. But I have tried several times and just end up going round in circles trying to find the right page/site. I have tried to use the UK site of Microsoft where possible, but, sometimes I forget and ask for the US version instead.
Can you help? And where to start?

babybear.

PS. I live in the UK near London. And get your magazine every month. It is brilliant.

Dear Sir,
Please note: I have rubbed out my real name from Belark made below.
I thought I had uninstalled this: RADEON 9700 PRO [Display adapter]
RADEON 9700 PRO - Secondary [Display adapter] But it is shown as still on here.
I use this
NETGEAR 108 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter WG311T
VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter #2
to get online sometimes. I do not have the original router/modem but, it works with the new Billion router/modem the ISP gave me.

No need for the whole Belarc output, parts of it are useful but posting the whole lot is not necessary.
"I have according to 'Belark Advisor' several hundred MB of Norton 360 I cannot uninstall"

Norton is your current antivirus product, it's bound to take up some space, and your email errors may be solved by following these instructions;

Try disabling email-scanning in Norton, it's another possible reason for email problems.

Major crashes and fuzzy graphics sound like a PSU failing to supply enough power or your graphics card failing (either as a result of the lack of PSU power, or just going wrong of its own accord).
Are the graphics still bad when you boot in Safe Mode?

Not a good thing to do, babybearm - you should have started your own new thread then you would have received an email every time someone replied.
As it is now, weemacs will be getting an email everytime someone posts a reply.
