I keep getting replies to e-mails I have never sent. These came today, any ideas.

I got a lot of them a few months ago. At some point, I reckon, you've had a virus that has propagated itself, and these are mails getting bounced back by other servers, I think.

Do a full AV scan.

  Fellsider 11:58 15 Feb 2005

You've probably got a virus that has gone through your address book entries OR someone with your e-mail address in their address book has.

I picked the following up some time ago which as far as I know works. (although I don't think I've had any viruses)

Make a new entry in your address book of
'!00000' in the name field. Do not enter any other info. This will then be the first entry in your address book and as such a virus cannot get past it and cannot send anything as there is no address attached to it.

That's an exclamation mark before the zeros

I think that 00000 thing was discredited some time ago because it doesn't work. Someone may remember a link?

Urban myth I'm afraid.

  Fellsider 12:09 15 Feb 2005

Must be that I've just been lucky I suppose but as it isn't bothering me by being in the address book I'll just keep it there.

Could be right mate, I have been getting virus alerts on the screen (Trojan Horse) I just press heal and it seems to get rid. Are you saying the virus sends out e-mails to attack other computers? You would think the virus would be detected on my computer and stopped before it could do any damage. Just run a full scan & it came up with nothing. In the virus vault there are a number of viruses, can these be safely deleted? I have just tried to send you a screen shot of virus vault but I could not do it, it would not paste. If I copied them and added them into this message? could that infect someones computer that received the message.

Thanks to all you guys for advice.

  VoG II 12:27 15 Feb 2005

Try a scan with a² click here

  diesel1948 13:32 15 Feb 2005

Good advice VoG found 4 trojans and 6 other things. Ran AVG free prior to that and it found nothing. Does that tell us something!!!!!!!!!!!.
Thanks again.
