Out of Office Reply (Outlook 2000)

  Mr Confused 17:26 03 Sep 2006

I have recently installed Outlook 2000 on my computer and I am aware that there should be an Out of Office feature under the Tools menu. Having checked under this menu, however, I am not given this option. Can anyone explain why it is not there or how I can enable this function?

According to Help in Outlook 2002, this feature requires Microsoft Exchange

I've just been on to that link but the problem is that at the bottom of that page it says: -

NOTE: Outlook must be running for the Rules Wizard to automatically reply.

Which could pose a problem if I was away for a long period.

If you go on this site

Under the Creating a Signature section it shows all of the options that should be available under the Tools menu.

The options that I have available under the Tools menu are: -

Address Book
Advanced Find...
Rules Wizard...
Empty "Deleted items" folder
Update contacts from Customer Manager
Customer Manager Activity Tracker Options...
Separate Contact(s) from Customer Manager

PS Please note that the menus are showing the full menus and not the most recently used functions.

It is Tools > Options ? Mail format that you want.

It is pretty obvious that Outlook must be running if you think about it.

Out of office is great in a business environment. I would never use it on my home PC (which is normally on 24/7 with Outlook running) because it is telling *anybody* who sends you an e-mail that your house is unoccupied.

Come to think of it - it probably isn't the wisest thing to declare is it?!

I was just interested in setting the out of office function up when I go on holiday, as I currently work from home, but it's not the end of the world. I was just curious about setting it up that's all.

Thanks for your help though VoG™ - much appreciated.
