Only recently aware of Hosts Files. Is it worth installing or will it limit browser functions?

Well worth it - try this one click here

"will it limit browser functions?"

It will limit the sites you can visit (deliberately or accidentally!) by blocking access to dangerous sites. Nothing more.

The one VoG suggests is a good start.

If you install SpyBot Search & Destroy, it will maintain a whole host (pun intended) of Hosts file entries as part of its weekly updates.

I've used this and also supplemented with various additional domain details of ad servers that push out ads not covered in the SpyBot stuff.

A large Hosts file ( e.g. > 128KB )is reputed to affect performance (at least in XP), but I've never found it a prob ( mine is curtrently 409KB )

Follow VoG™'s advice. it's the one that is most effective.

Ever since I had a corrupt Host file I have always used Vogs choice and have had no problems since.
It usually gets updated once a month and the new version removes the old version.
I update mine manually not sure if it can be done automatically or not.
