I'm using Word 2003 and I'm trying send a document to someone who is using Word 2007 but she can't open the document.

I've made sure I've saved the file as "Microsoft Word 2007 Document" But its not working for her.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Rob

She need to download and install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel,

and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats if you are using a Office program before Office 2007

Without the Office Compatibility Pack Office 2007 files will not open in Office 97, 2000, XP, &
2003

Ahhh thats what I was thinking too, I'm sure that there was another way.

But it is the other way around as far as I can see. If she has Word 2007 and you have Word 2003 just send it as a Word 2003 document which 2007 is able to open.

ps with Word 2003 how did you manage to save it as a 2007 document?

Word 2007 has built in backwards compatibility to open Word 2003 documents. (.doc v .docx)

Basically that should open OK.

The other way round I could understand.

When I converted to Office 2007 I had no problem reading all my old files.

Hi Woolwell I went "Save As" Save as type:
"Word 2007 Document"

She now says:

"She doesn't have the program to open it"

Saved it in 2003 Rich Text Format and see how that goes.

download openoffice here
open document(will open office 2000/2003/2007 doc)
view document or work on it
then pick file "save as" word 2000/2003 doc if this is what you want.
I have used this method many times as i have have had problems with microsofts converter.

KremmenUK has given you the correct answer. Don't change the file at all just send it in the format it was created by Word 2003. All versions of MS Office are backwards compatible.
