Open Office - Styles and Formatting

Could someone talk me through the method of changing styles for a document in Open Office. I have tried following the HELP directions, but it doesn't seem to work.

Specifically, I want to change a whole document (already typed)to have having an indent on the first line of each paragraph. I go to FORMAT> STYLES AND FORMATTING and then select 'First line indent' and 'automatic'. I have tried selecting the text beforehand, but it doesn't change. I have tried the rh arrow and selected 'update style'. Still no change.

What have I missed?

Many thanks.

Select all the text.
Go to Format > Paragraph > Indents and Spacing tab.
Tick the "Automatic" box.
Click OK.
