My old PC is using a dongle to connect to my home broadband, it says it's connecting and the winbdows updates are updating but i cant seem to get Firefox or IE online, also AVG, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware wont update due to 'connection problems'.
Please has anyone any ideas?

Is there still the same problem if you connect with an ethernet cable instead of the WiFi dongle?

My first guess is that it is the speed of connection to router and Windows Updates is using all of the available.

Hi, thank you. Im afraid the PC is up two sets of stairs so an ethernet cable is not an option, however, the Windows updates is stuck on 1%, but having said that, the PC says connection is good but, previously, even with terrible connection speed i can still bring up Firefox/Google.

It sounds as if the connection has in fact dropped. Try a repair of the connection or reboot.

Brilliant! A 'repair' worked a treat!
Thank you very much!
