Hi Guys,
This one's got the guys at work realy in a tiz. there are two users that when they try to print from a certain app the printer Icon in the control panal disaperes, all other users can print but these 2 users can't, when the printer is re installed it can be used but when the re login and use the printer the same thing happens. A work we use XP pro and I think 2003 server. The user accounts have been deleted and re made a fresh by a power user but the prob is still there. Anybody any clues.

Check that you are all on the the same subnet and that dhcp is set correctly ie either static or assigned depending on router config. If static then check that no 2 PCs have the same IP address.

Thnx m8 but yes they are all on the same subnet and server is on static ip add all pc's are on automatic ip add, also pc has been swoped as to rule pc out. All users have roaming user profile, I think its the way the accounts have been setup if that makes any sense?

Can you change the problem User to an Administrator then add the printer through the Printers Control Panel, print a test page, then change the User back to Limited or Power?

We canot get in touch with the administrator for a while now, all we have is a power user login

It could be the roaming user profiles. They need to be set up on the server as well. click here This also tells you how to copy one of the working profiles to one of the problem user accounts.

If its just one app that they cant print from then it could be a firewall setting. Then again if the printer "disappears" after log off it could be Group Policy settings in the Server. You can check the settings on the Server by following Microsofts article click here and having a look at the part " Add a member to a group" and "Find groups where a user is a member" to see if it is the same as the users who have no problems.
