older xp wont load

i have a 2 year old hp510 laptop runnin xp home i need to reformat i have an older xp disc 2002 home but it says on screen i cant use as i have a newer version installed
could you tell me what my choices are

Are you booting from the XP CD?

make sure the laptop is configured to boot from the CD first(change the setting in BIOS)

Put the CD in the drive and restart the laptop

It should boot to the XP CD. One of the options is to format the disk before installing

I have am just at this moment using the same Laptop. Have you tried F11 to run a Restore, It may have had a backup created on the Hard Drive Partition D:\ when new When its booting tap F11 when it pops up on screen F10 is for BIOS

yes it does have a hp drive partition. So can i do a clean reinstall from there and what do i do press f11 . Procedure please,woodchip

Tap F11 when first switch on then follow the prompts to rest the machine to factory condition.
