Office 2003 Recently Used File Lists isn't there

I have recently installed MSOffice 2003.

Neither Word or Excel are showing a recently used file list.
In both apps, the option to enable it in Tools/Options/General is greyed out.

I had MSOffice 2000 installed a while back. I think it worked did but can't be certain. However I completely removed Office 2000 before installing 2003.

Can anyone throw any light on this please?

Thanks for the link, this has fixed the problem - I must learn to search the Microsoft Help & Support centre better (I must also learn not to twiddle with things without understanding what they do)
