OE won't open, with error message

  MrsGrey 18:29 12 Aug 2007

Hallo kind people.
I have just returned from a short holiday and OE won't open. I get the "OE has encountered a problem" message and invitation to tell Microsoft. The error message is
From that I assume that there is something nasty in the Temporary files somewhere. I do know that accomptat.txt is just the name of the file used to tell Microsoft and not the problem itself.
So far I have tried:
debugging-- the Dr. Watson itself encountered a problem and closed.
Rebooting-- no change.
Deleting Temporary internet files
Running AdAware: it needed updating, and it failed to do that, so I didn't run it. It has never failed to update before.
Ran Mcafee virus scan. Nothing but a couple of cookies.
IE is running fine.
I have never had a problem like this before, unless very temporary.

While I was away, I briefly went online with a wifi connection at the B&B I was in.

Any ideas, anyone? Should I do a registry clean? What is a good registry clean programme? I have 3B Software's Registry Repair Pro.

Thank you!

If so and you're using IE 6.0, there is a known problem.

click here to read about it, but basically, it means do your updates regularly.

Try Ccleaner click here
and Winaso click here regopt version (trial)

And then try to re-register OE click here

and try sfc
Start / run and type
sfc /scannow
and enter

Understanding sfc click here

If IE6 click here will not work with IE7

that should have been OE 6.0, but the fix is valid.

Well I am amazed. I just went to OE in the program menu in the Start menu and it started straight away-- no problem. And I have been trying all day. I am using OE6 and IE7 and I get automatic updates, so it should be OK.
Fingers crossed and if there it happens again, I'll be back. Meanwhile I will do Ccleaner anyway and have a look at Winaso.
I will also loook at sfc as I have never heard of it!
Thanks for your help!

I suggest that you read click here as well.

Wow-- thank you for that link. I had no idea about this. It all seems like good advice and I am quite messy in OE!Hopefully I can do all that and avoid a nasty crash.
