Obsolete application and device drivers

Upgraded old computer from windows 98 to XP but cd-rw is always disabled by XP on start up as 'unstable' and dvd-rom will only play cds - needs a dvd decoder for dvds. I've looked for updated drivers for cd-rw but can't find any for XP. Is is too old? Goldstar cd-rw CED-8080B. Looked up dvd decoders and totally confused. The computer is not connected to the internet so I need to download drivers to a memory stick and then install. Any ideas much appreciated.

misingit is probably right in that there may be too much of an age gap now but try putting LG CED-8080B into Google.

There are several sites there where you can download a firmware update for your CD drive.

If you do update the firmware, follow the instructions to the letter, because a firmware update is not usually possible to undo.
