Nvidia Display adapter problem

  EJ1947 19:36 26 Nov 2006

I have installed a new Nvidia GeForce4 card to replace old one with faulty fan. XP installed drivers and it appears ok in device manager. Problem is when I boot up it reaches xp splash screen (sometimes further) then shuts down and re-boots. This continues until I set it to use safe mode which is ok. After checking it is installed I re boot and the same happens. Anyone think of why or what I may have done wrong.

It's always best to remove all traces of previous graphics card drivers first.

Thanks for reply. I should have said that I un installed old card and drivers first.

Yes, but you still need to get rid of the bits and pieces, which is where Drive Cleaner Pro helps.

Will try that as it does look a useful programme. Thanks.

It's still worth reading the guide first...:-)

Agree - it is a very informative site, well worth an hours reading. Have copied for ref. I didn't know how much junk was left after basic uninstalling.
Thanks Stuarti.
